I have written about the morning banter at home quite a few times. That particular time of the day when Pasta starts at 8 for School followed by me and Mehebub for Office by 9 a.m. We generally don’t do a proper sit-down breakfast instead grab the handy food these days to manage the time. I make several types of breakfast smoothies to make our breakfast as fuss-free as possible. In fact, once Pasta leaves home; I and Mehebub just grab our smoothie glasses and start for the office. The recipe I will be sharing here is an easy fruit and curd based Smoothie; Mango Mint Date Smoothie aka Mango Mint Date Lassi.
The Mango Mint Date Lassi or Mango Mint Date Smoothie is a summer favorite at home. I actually was confused what name should I opt for this Curd based drink. Both Smoothie and Lassi suit fine after all. Then I thought “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet!” Okay, I am not comparing the humble Mango Mint Date Lassi with the monologue or actually, I am comparing it 😉 .
Before going further with the recipe on Mango Mint Date Lassi; how about a little discussion on the difference between Lassi and Smoothie.
Difference between Lassi and Smoothie:
Smoothie is a blended beverage. It can be prepared using the fruits, vegetables, cookies, ice-cream or Curd, Yogurt etc and at times by mixing whatever matches. While on the other hand Lassi is a variety of smoothie (better to say Indian Smoothie) which must have Curd (or Yogurt). Though other ingredients (as mentioned in a smoothie) can be added however as secondary ingredients.
Mango Mint Date Lassi or Mango Mint Date Smoothie:
Call the drink Lassi or call it a smoothie, it tastes good; it is filling.More importantly, the Mango Mint Date Lassi or Mango Mint Date Smoothie I make is a healthy and nutritious blend of Hung Curd, Ripe Mango, Dates, and Mint. Thie recipe of Mango Mint Date Lassi or Mango Mint Date Smoothie had been published in the Bengali Lifestyle magazine Sanada in March 2018.
When I make the Mango Mint Date Lassi or Mango Mint Date Smoothie; I make it in three batches considering the preference of the family. Mine loaded with Mint. Mahbub’s Mango Mint Date Lassi has to be with added Date. Last but not the least Pasta’s Mango Mint Date Smoothie with an extra dose of the Mango. One thing that goes in equal proportion to our Lassi glasses is Honey! Needless to say, I am sharing the recipe for a neutral blend to not to confuse you 😉 .Print

- Peel the Mango and cut into small pieces.
- Take chilled Hung Curd in a blender and blend until smooth and keep it aside.
- Soak seedless Dates in warm water for 10 minutes before making the Lassi/ Smoothie.
- Now take the dates and blend those.
- Add chopped Mangoes and blend again.
- Add chopped Mint leaves and Honey and blend for a minute.
- Now add the curd and blend again to finish the Mango Mint Date Lassi/ Mango Mint Date Smoothie.
- Transfer the content in a separate jug and refrigerate it for 30 minutes before serving. I don’t use separate Jug, instead, I directly put the blending jar in the refrigerator.
You can substitute honey with sugar or can avoid it completely.
If Hung Curd not available take normal curd double the amount and pour it over a strainer and keep it as it is for 30 minutes to discard the water.
Instead of curd plain yogurt can also be used. You can check here the difference between Curd and Yogurt.
