A vibrant and spacious cafe, some good food and a few happy faces; this is what Cafe ICanFlyy all about. A new cafe located at Ballygunge, well almost nearby Maddox Square. To be very frank, before visiting the place, I was happy knowing the location, Maddox, after all, is close to my heart and for that matter close to many typical Kolkatans.
Before visiting the cafe, I was told and in fact, it was there on several social media pages that Cafe ICanFlyy is run (not owned) by the specially abled youths. I found people discussing the cafe for completely different reason than food and I was not comfortable with that! Yes, you read it right, I was not comfortable people treating the cafe special because it is run by the specially-abled people. You found me insensitive, aren't you! Believe me, I am not, I am just practical.
Growing up with a specially-abled kid ( my cousin brother who is 11 months older than me); one thing I learned in my life, they are as normal as we are; as passionate as we are and as compassionate, as we are. I never ever in my life treated a so-called specially abled person differently. For me, it is just like helping (even not helping) a person fallen on the floor suddenly. You just need to spread your hands to that person!
However, I elaborated this because I visited Cafe ICanFlyy without considering the place different from any cafe in the city. I had my food there, I reviewed everything from FOOD, to service to decor (if you call, it review) and here I am with my note of experience and understanding.
A vibrant cafe; colorfully decorated and with Cal-lisa and Cat-petra Chairs (oh I loved them, and almost wanted to take them home!). the Cafe has different segments, including a book zone, kid zone, Gamezone apart from the general seating.
Coming to the food, they are having a simple yet customized menu at present. I had a portion of Mushroom and Cheese Pizza which upon request they serve us 3" portion. The Pizza was homely and comforting. My friend ordered some Maggi and I opted for Non-veg Fettucine Alfredo. I tasted a spoonful of Maggi and to be very frank nothing much to comment on that. The Pasta was comforting with a proper bite. I found the Cheese and Chicken proportion good.
Next item was the Classic Chicken Ceaser Salad which I found decent both taste and portion wise. We had a portion of Fish and chips as well along with my Berry and Basil Soda and my friend's Cutting Chai. We were then served with Cafe ICanFlyy's signature dessert, Caprese. A sponge flavored with Basil and with a filling of tomato confit, white chocolate, mozzarella coating and Mascarpone Mousse. I found the portion size a bit on the smaller size, however, the taste indeed was good.
Finally, coming to service part, I found nothing to complain about! they were on time, polite with the loveliest smile on their face. I told you, in the beginning, it just is a beautiful cafe with a good array of food and a good batch of staff; as normal as any good cafe 🙂 . Probably that is the reason I wanted to go back there with my daughter; after all, I found the cafe full of life.
