Does it sound crazy; Kolkata Biriyani Walk with Debjani! Well it is and I am well aware about it for sure but when it comes to the famous Kolkata Biriyani; I have no other option but to turn into a typical crazy and on this thought a week back I have decided to start my first ever Food Walk. I was planning since long to start a food walk but was not sure about how to start it or whom to approach it and finally decided to take the easiest way possible; to start it with the food for which Kolkata is considered as the Mekka; the Biriyani of all Biriyani's: Kolkata Biriyani. Almost casually I have drafted a plan of around 10 Biriyani joints of Kolkata to visit and I wrote about it in Facebook. I have visited those places several times earlier but I approached through Facebook to others for their choice of preferences and finally ended on a list where I have not considered few places which are not typically to be there for Biriyani! I have planned to visit 1 Kolkata Biriyani Joint each week and finally to come up with my preferred 10! Here's the list of the food joints I am planning to visit soon and I will be posting a review of each place after the consequent visit.

  1. New Aliah Hotel (Bentinck Street)
  2. Arsalan (Park Circus)
  3. India Restaurant (Khidirpur)
  4. Royal (Chitpur)
  5. Shiraz (Mallik Bazar)
  6. Zeesan (Park Circus)
  7. Dada Boudi Hotel / D Bapi (Barrackpur)
  8. Asma (Baruipur)
  9. Mezban (Ripon Street)
  10. Biriyani House (New Market)
  11. Khaja Biriyani Centre (Kalighat)
  12. Saima (Exide More)
  13. Nizam (A J C Bose Road)
  14. Delhi Durbar (Ultodanga)
  15. Rahamania (Dharmatala)
  16. Haji Saheb (Behala)
  17. Arsalan (Bypass)
When I started writing about the Biriyani walk with Debjani this morning; I thought it's going to be a personal affair and I never thought to receive such response from people who are not even known to me apart from my own circle! It's amazing guys… I really don't know how we are going to enjoy this but one thing I know that it is going to be an unique experience for me to meet you all just for the sake of Kolkata Biriyani! Let me now jot down few details which I feel required to be shared…
  • Who am I: nobody but a Kolkata Biriyani lover and a food blogger too. I write at Debjanir Rannaghar(www.kitchenofdebjani.com).. And yes a financial analyst by profession…
  • Who can join: Anybody can join the Biriyani Walk irrespective of age, sex, religion bla bla bla….. We all need to pay for our food and I will humbly sponsor final day which I have planned in Arsalan, Bypass because of the availability of space and location. No need to join each food joint; you can choose your prefered places based on your suitability.
  • Why this Walk: just to taste Kolkata Biriyani again and again.. and for this walk I am not limited to typical Kolkata Biriyani but the Biriyani culture of Kolkata
  • What I am going to do after each visit: there will be a detailed review in my blog along with the pictures after each visit and I am going to talk to everybody separately who are going to be part of the walk to know their view. Comments matter a lot!
  • There will be a final write up in my blog assembling the entire walk at the end
  • I will be sharing the detail of the venue at the mid of each week ( most probably weekends) and will try to share the price per plate whichever available. Please note that we are not going to book tables for obvious reason so be there on time in the venues.
  • Do click pictures and tag those with #Biriyaniwalk , #Kolkatabiriyaniwalkwithdebjani, #Kolkatabiriyani in social networking sites…
  •  Nothing more guys! Please be available with your own share of Pudinhara/ Gelucile / Carmozyme
Cheers to Kolkata Biriyani!
