Imagine a rainy evening when you are having steam hot Tea along with Pakora and other munchies. Then there are people (or may be a single person) whom you like to give you tea company! Now Imagine, you are actually frying the Pakora or Samosa or Ghoogni or any damn thing or may be you are responsible for making the tea! Do you really want that kind of Mansoon tea! Okay, at times, we prefer to cook but there are times when cooking is not typically the first thing to choose for! Keeping that in mind J W Marriot, Kolkata has come up with their Monsoon Tea offerings at JW Lounge in Kolkata.
Now you may ask, whether I want you to consider five-star offerings over home-cooked food! What about the pricing, say if there is a group of 10! Tell me one thing, how about paying INR 499 plus taxes per person for the Evening tea. By the way let me tell you, after having the entire platter with your choice of tea chances are less to grab anything for dinner in case you are having the same in evening.
I found the Monsoon chai offering by J W Marriot which will be ending on 31st August, nothing but worth trying. With the choice of tea (flavored with ginger, cardamom, cinnamon or bishop’s weed) or may be coffee, they have come up with several snacks worth drooling for. Be it the Murgh or Subz Samosa with Masala Mayo’, or the ‘Macadamia aur Kaju Pakora’, or ‘Paruppu Vada, or Carrot Manga Koshambri’ or local varieties with a twist like 'Nimki with Tamatar Chutney' or the 'Ghoogni Beetrute Masala tart', the list actually is quite large. To end the Chai on a sweet note there will be 'Soan Papdi' or 'Pista Barfi' to cherish for.
I not only enjoyed the Evening Chai offering at the JW Lounge at J W Marriott, Kolkata but the low-cost offering is again another gem by them. In fact, who can forget their low-cost buffets? Basically, for me, it is five-star within budget!
Given, tea is never my cup of tea, I ended on having the single shot espresso. Just the way I like it, strong and without sugar. From the food spread, Murg Samosa was the perfect companion for my espresso and so the Macadamia aur Kaju Pakora. The Tamatar Chutney was for me much better than the Nimki! The Brie aur Mirch ki Potli was another typical Monsoon delicacy and so was the Jaar wali Papdi Chat.
