    Ego the retro lounge bar at The Peerless Inn Kolkata relaunched!

    One of Kolkata’s oldest bars at the Peerless Inn, Ego the retro lounge is recently being relaunched with a fresh menu! With the retro environment, ample space and well-coordinated band music along with your favorite liquor and that too in the central part of the city of joy; Ego is well equipped with the non-egoistic ambiance now!

    I was invited to represent Kolkata Food Bloggers to visit (or it is better to say revisit) Ego the retro lounge. Dreamy interior with the picture of oldies (are they really old!) and along with that some superb numbers played by  three local bands on consecutive Wednesday, Friday and Saturday,  Stairways on Wednesdays, Feather Touch on Fridays and The Overtime Project on Saturdays! Internally the bar is divided into three sections, one for the live band, the bar and a spacious lounge.

    My evening started with a long Iceland tea, one of my preferred cocktail followed by a Martini! What I found the cocktails were mostly on the moderate side when it comes to the portion of alcohol. Even the long Iceland tea was not strong enough to hit the brain; so I played safe and get back to the regular choice of wine and ended with Baileys Irish Cream as always. The only suggestion I can give them to make their cocktails a bit bold!

    We were served with Vietnamese Woolly Prawns, Thai Crispy Prawn Rolls, Malaysian Spicy meat dumplings, Spinach and Chives Jade Dumplings to match with our choice of the liquor. Both the prawn munchies were equally good whereas the  Vietnamese Woolly Prawns was probably the hero of the day with perfectly cooked prawns rolled in noodles and served with a portion of sweet chili sauce and it went perfectly well with my glass of wine and on the other hand Thai Crispy Prawn Roll was a safe and decent choice. I however, didn’t like the next serving much which was the Malaysian Spicy meat dumplings. It was a bit on the salty side with unnecessary dryness inside.  To change the non-vegetarian flavor we opted for the Spinach and Chives Jade Dumplings and to my surprise it was just amazing with the melting in mouth texture and perfect balance of the veggies.

    Ego the retro lounge by the Peerless in is now fully functional and you can visit it anytime between 6 p.m. to midnight to enjoy the retro bar!
