Notes

Breaking a wood apple, also known as bel, requires a strong and sturdy utensil or device. A heavy hammer, mallet, Nora (from shil nora) or other weighty tool is best suited for the task. The wood apple is a hard fruit, so it is important to use enough force to crack the outer shell without smashing the inner pulp. When breaking the wood apple, it is best to place the fruit on a hard surface, such as a cutting board or countertop. Then, hit the wood apple with the utensil or tool until it splits open. Once opened, the inner edible pulp can be enjoyed.
