Description

Macher Teler Chorchori aka Fish Fat, Fish liver, and fish intestine mishmash with Potatoes and Eggplant is a Bengali delicacy.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 200g Macher Tel/ Fish Fat, Intestine, and fish Liver
  • 3 Potato
  • 1 Eggplant
  • 2 Onion
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 Tbsp. Ginger Paste
  • 1 Tbsp. Garlic Paste
  • 2 Green Chili
  • 1.5 Tsp. Red Chili Powder
  • 2 Tsp. Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tsp. Salt or to taste
  • 4 Tbsp. Mustard Oil


Instructions

  1. Wash the Fish portions aka Macher Tel (Fish Fat, Intestine, and fish Liver).
  2. Marinate Macher Tel with 1 Tsp. of Turmeric Powder, 1 Tsp.  each of Red Chili Powder, and salt.
  3. Chop Onion roughly and cut tomatoes into small chunks.
  4. Peel the skin off the potatoes and cut them into small cubes.
  5. Cut Eggplant into small cubes as well.
  6. Sprinkle 1/2 Tsp. Salt and 1/2 Tsp. Turmeric Powder over Eggplant Cubes and marinade.
  7. Heat the oil in a pan and after sprinkling a little turmeric powder and salt fry Eggplant and keep aside.
  8. Fry the potatoes as well, till they turn golden brown in color. 
  9. Now add Fish parts and give a thorough mix.
  10. Let the mixture release oil from the edges.
  11. Add chopped onion.
  12. Start frying on low flame till the onion turns brown.
  13. The fish parts will emit their own fat and the dish will be cooked in the same.
  14. Add Ginger and garlic paste along with chopped tomatoes and chopped Gren Chilies and cook on a lower flame for around 5 minutes.
  15. Now fried Eggplant.
  16. Keep the flame on the lower side.
  17. Cook for around 10 minutes or till the potatoes soften and the leaves oil from the edges.
  18. The end product must be mussy.
  19. Serve it hot with Plain rice or Roti.

Notes

I don't add any spices apart from Chili, turmeric, and salt. You may, however, add little Garam Masala while making the Macher Teler Chorchori. However, I feel the dish calls for domination by the fishy aroma, not the spices.
