Knock knock; another Five-star alert Kolkata! In fact, just after completing their successful one year in Kolkata, of Marriott International Inc., has come up with one of their famous business hotels, The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat which is first under the brand Westin. Situated in the Rajarhat Area, around 8 kilometers from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat indeed one of the long-awaited property in the city of joy. I was invited to visit their all-day restaurant Seasonal tastes specifically a few days back.
My visit was mainly to sample the food offered by the Seasonal Tastes. A property with 34 floors, modern decor, The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat four specialty restaurants/ cafe namely Seasonal Tastes, East, Vedic and the Launch Bar. At Present they are only functional with Seasonal Tastes, which is their contemporary all-day dining restaurant on the 10th floor.
With the contemporary interior, the interior is smart and refreshing. Especially the vise from the restaurant capturing the upper floors and the elements of spirituality are shooting. I reached the place after office, after driving a few kilometers and was expecting something simple yet refreshing. the first look did not disappoint me.
At present, the kitchen is having two live counters, one for the Italian spread and another to serve Pan Asian food. In addition to that, the typical spreads one can expect in a five-star kitchen including the wide-spread Indian, continental, the salad and cold cut bar and dessert counter are there. I was told that they are having a Kid special menu, ‘Eat Well Menu for Kids’; which needless to say attracted me.
Our meal started with a few dishes served from the A-la-Carte though we tried several dishes from the set buffet as well.
A-la-carte:
We were served with Amouse Bouche which is Air Pillows with Tomato and Mozzarella and Balsamic Drink. I found the okayish. However, I found the Green Curry and Pumpkin Emulsion with Tom Kha Foam, amazing. Rich, thick, coconutty and flavorful the soup was really good.
Given I have a thing for Cheesy Pasta, Buccatini with Saffron Seafood Sauce was not typically my thing. However, it was decent enough. I don't need to say much about the Lemon and Parsley Risotto, it was good, period.
Lastly, we were served on a dessert platter called Classic Opera, which was having coffee flavored dessert with caramel. I was happy having it. I mean why not; coffee and caramel can't go wrong after all.
Buffet at Seasonal Tastes:
From the buffet, I have tried a few Kebab. The Chicken and Fish Kebab were authentic and good to taste. However, I would have like those more if served a bit hot! The Grilled Chicken and Sausages were fine to taste.
I found the Jain selection quite impressive and tried a few items. This place with their vegetarian options hopefully going to be a good food destination for Kolkata's vegetarian clan.
I have no complaints about the Biryani. In fact, I found it quite good and non-veg sides are decent.
My order from the live counters was a white sauce based Pasta and spicy noodles from the Chinese counter. Though they took a bit extra time to serve the dishes but the Pasta was worth the waiting.
Coming to the desserts I tried from the buffet, I found the Pistachio Mouse really good and so is the lemon tart. Rest of the desserts were as per the quality of any business hotel's buffet.
