Be it the home cooked food or experience of having food somewhere outside, food is something I love to discuss, I love to write about and naturally I cherish the food adda. This post of mine is about a blogger's meet followed by family dine out at the Grid. Now there are certain perks for being a food blogger. We often get invitations to sample food in different joints and naturally have the first-hand idea to choose a food joint for the further visit. Sometimes people ask me to refer food joints and I try to guide them based on my preferences, my experience at any particular joint. However, One more thing I am often being asked, how to be a review blogger and how to get free food! Well, the coin has another side you see! Now that is what I found difficult as I have a set budget each month that I spent for dine out to spend quality time with the family and friends and I don’t consider myself as a review blogger but what I write is solely about my experience of the having the F&B at any particular joint. I got an invitation to sample food at the Grid where I was invited to sample food along with the fellow bloggers and upon satisfied with the entire experience I have decided to revisit the place with a personal group! I, though, was a bit skeptical while going there with the family (& friends) as I already had experience of having average food upon going to a food joint as a normal habitué after a blogger’s meet. Fortunately, The Grid had not at all turned me down. I got the same taste, same quality, same portion size and same service while visiting the place next time. That probably is the sign of a good and stable F&B place who are maintaining their services.
Coming to the Location, The Grid is located in Tapsia in fact just opposite to my worse half’s office and the area we both often explore for food after office. It, however, was my first visit to The Grid and the first thing I noticed was the area covered which is around 10000 sq. ft. and beautifully divided into layers which are complimenting each other just perfectly. The critical (or not critical) wife of an architect discussed the décor first with the worse half upon returning home! However, Food is what matters to me more (and beverage too) while visiting a place in the capacity of a blogger and to be very frank whenever I visit a place for dining out.
The Blogger’s meet:
I along with some of the eminent city based food blogger and foodies were invited and it, in fact, was my first meeting with Supreeta & Suneha. One thing I must say, it was a productive food “Adda” that we enjoyed and why not, after all, Ruksana and Indrajit da are known for their knowledge about food and at the end, we all are humble foodies so the food also worked.
The evening started with some Crispies with three types of dips followed by a “Feta crumble and marinated melon salad with toasted sunflower seeds, roquette leaves, and spicy Tunisian lemon chili dressing”” and this dish has created a little buzz when I posted a humble picture on Facebook. A friend of mine commented aggressively that the look is identical to something available in the Gaggan (Bangkok) and what I found Chef Chiranjib from the Grid coming out with a crisp reply. Well, he not only knows what he is cooking but he is confident with what he is serving and that is what I found strong like the Fetta and Melon salad. The next item came to our table was the “Juhu Gymkhana’s coriander Noddle’s”. The typical street food lover Debjani enjoyed every bit of the coriander loaded spicy stir-fried noodles which were flavored with the garlic. The next item was probably one of the house favorite, the mini Pork Samosa. Perfect, crispy and properly cooked is what those Samosas were. Well, the appetizers not ended there but we were served with Dry Sriracha Chilli chicken, Spicy chicken wings and Fish Fingers and for me, the chili Chicken was something I can have again and again. That is one item I should recommend the readers to try out at the Grid for sure along with the Pork Samosa. The Bhindi bazaar Chicken Tikka was decent enough to try for.
Before going to the main course let me share the details about the beverages we tasted there. I have started with a tried and tested one, the long Iceland tea followed by some of the house favorites cocktails as suggested by Supreeta and my special mention is the rum and Bailey’s Irish Cream loaded Jamaican Skull which was served with a “Nolen Gurer Jolbhora Talsansh”! This was then followed by some other cocktails which I found decent.
As the main course, we had "The Scotch Egg served with the Keema", "Classic Grilled fish with Potatoes", and "Srilankan Egg Curry and Paratha". I don’t generally order an egg based dish while dining out but the Srilankan Egg Curry and Paratha is something I can have any time without considering meat. They have used Kolkata Bhetki for Grilled fish and the typical Bong lady was happy with her portion.
We though were not in a position to have a single bite of dessert but who can say no to the "Gupta Ji Toast", the sinful and chocolaty dessert platter and we have tried another dessert loaded with Oreo, chocolate sauce, and ice-cream.
Visit the Grid with Family:
Well, my great family members (including the worse half) have seen the pictures and you know what we ended visiting the Grid! Now this time I was obviously critical to check the food, and services. We ended on ordering An Appetizer platter (consisting of the fish finger, Dry Chilli Prawns Fries, and Bhindi bazaar Chicken Tikka followed by another serving of the Fish fingers. The beverage part comprised of whiskey, Bailey’s and a Jamaican Skull for me. For the main course, we opted for "Keema Pav" (this was something I tried on the 2nd day and recommend to try) and again the Srilankan Egg Curry with Paratha. We almost were full but based on my suggestion the group ended on ordering a Guptaji Toast and the reaction was again same!
I am going to visit the Grid again for sure and why not! Who don’t want to have a tasty meal (with more than enough portion size) that is properly priced in the mid of the city!
Disclaimer: This post is comprising of experience of Debjani to sample food at the Grid on two separate days; where she was invited for the first one by the management and second one was a personal visit.
