My Dear Sakha and Sakhi,
I have decided to torture you with my writing today and I know you are going to tolerate me this time as well! Well, you both were terrified when I told you that I am going to start a food blog back in 2010 but I didn't receive a single negative word from you. There are several instances when we may be not happy with each other but we never failed to support one another. Now don't panic; I am not going to praise you both here at my blog. I am well aware that you can't be able to digest it! So let me come to the point. Have you seen the recent promos of Zee Tv's’ Yaaron Ki Baraat, if not check it!
I am in love with the concept of the show which will be starting on 8th at 8 p.m. Can you imagine they are going to show the relation between Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Mr. Shatrughan Sinha in one episode! People used to talk about their sour relation and here the case is actually different; it indeed going to be interesting to know their view points as well! Anyway, I found an opportunity to write something about friendship or to be specific about my friends and believe me I was not in a position to ignore it! This post of mine is not typically related to food alike most of my posts but Food is something that linked three of us years back!
Do you remember how we met or where we met; in fact, Jab we met! Sudipta though I and you were in college together but belong to the rival groups ( how horrible yours was) and probably "Uparwala" planned something different for us as we finally developed a connection after leaving college. One thing I never told you that I somehow am thankful to you that you have introduced me to Mr. Guha and it took me 2 months to discover why we call him Mr. Guha (Old man you are much older than us by the way).
I never thought that I need to thank you both for anything in my life. After all, you both are god gifted to me; when one used to be the ATM card to me (read Mr. Guha) and Sudipta was the living road map of Kolkata (especially to the roadside food joints). Have I told you both that you were the prime influencers who somehow helped me to think about a food blog! Do you remember, me cooking Hilsa at Sudipta's "Purani Haveli" followed by watching a B grade movie near Hajra more!
Our first cup of Irish coffee happily funded by Mr. Guha or our unplanned walks through the narrow lanes of Kolkata! Our friendship was something beyond the bar of age; expectations and social structure. We three are completely different when it comes to our career choice, our presence and even our way to judge things but somehow we are linked by the unconditional bonding of friendship! Sometimes we may not meet for months, never talk to each other or never send a text but when there is a single call from one member of the gang, we know that we are there for ourselves.
You know that you both are the first few people with whom I discussed my marriage plan! I still remember the email that I received from Mr. Guha when I disclosed my marriage plan to you (Mr. Guha). You wrote “Debjani it does not matter to me that you are Hindu and Mehebub is Muslim but what I wanted to know whether you two feel that you are compatible with each other to live together! Remember that you are going to face many societal problems but it is you two who has to take the final call. If you feel you both are right with your decision; you will find me to support you without asking a single question”.
Sudipta didn’t even ask a single question but the fact is that she organized the marriage in Kolkata back in 2010. She talked to the lawyer, she negotiated with the marriage registration officer. Me and Mehebub were both out of our hometown at that time and didn't bother with the arrangement. The first signature as the witness in our marriage certificate was by none other than Mr. Guha. We really have faced several questions, we basically lived those but both of you never asked anything and just supported us unconditionally.
Back in 2013, when Pasta was born on 2nd September, we received another little pumpkin on 4th, Sudipta’s son Saurashish it was. Now Mr. Guha prefers to deal with his Niece and Nephew instead of us!
For me, one the best relationship that justifies the friendship is the same between Draupadi and Sri Krishna! She has her “Sakha” with her while she was through the ups and downs of her life. I do have my Sakha and Sakhi for that matter to be with me, to support me. I know that they are there to tolerate me and to cherish our friendship!
Long live friendship!
With love...
Your Sakhi!
